Calling on Team YYC to participate in Canadian Airports Safety Week

From September 27 to 29, The Calgary Airport Authority is teaming up with 28 other airports to host Canadian Airports Safety Week (CASW). CASW is a Canada-wide airport initiative to promote healthy and safe work practices among airport employees.

We are hosting initiatives throughout the week to strengthen safety-minded behaviours. We’ve shifted some of the activities to virtual and adjusted those requiring in-person attendees to compliant with the recently announced restrictions.

We hope you will join us by participating in these events and encouraging your colleagues and teams to get involved.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28

Mental health webinar
Tune in with Carmelle Hunka, Vice President of People, Risk and General Counsel for The Calgary Airport Authority and Board Member for the Canadian Mental Health Association, Alberta Division and Board Chair for the Centre for Suicide Prevention, to learn about the importance of maintaining positive mental well-being and the direct correlation between mental health and a safe workplace.

Foreign object debris (FOD) walk
Join us on the airfield to see how the smallest items of loose debris such as pens, baggage locks or screws have the potential to cause serious safety risks to an airplane and runway operations.

Due to increased COVID-19 precautions, this event is limited to 20 people — including only those who must be onsite for work purposes — and will be an individual activity. Sign up today to secure your spot! COVID protocols will be followed.

Where: Meet at Apron I, beside the main terminal building, across from Gate 51, east of Breezeway C.
When: Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 1:30 p.m.
Other: As this event is post-security, all attendees must have a valid RAIC or escort and visitor pass. PPE is required; please bring a hi-vis vest and closed-toed shoes.

Not in My City, Human trafficking awareness course discussion 
We’re working closely to educate YYC’s airport community about aviation-related human trafficking in Calgary. Join YYC partner Not In My City in a virtual session to discuss how we’re working together to disrupt aviation-related human trafficking.

The Threat Risk Assessment (TRA) training course
Threat assessment is the first step in a risk and vulnerability analysis. Attend an online training course to determine how to assess the various threats and security risks throughout YYC Calgary International Airport.

TRA training is limited to employees at YYC whose decisions while at work may impact airlines and guests. Operationally-related positions and or employing organizations for those who can sign up include:  

• Calgary Police Service
• Airline managers  
• Manager of Airports (MOA)
• Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)
• Canadian Air Transport Security Agency (CATSA)
• Transport Canada
• US CBP
• Terminal Operations Specialists
• Airport Operations Specialists
• Airport Operations Control Specialists
