Volunteer call-out for Navigators
The Calgary Airport Authority will once again partner with Air Canada and local autism support organizations to host YYC Navigators. The airport’s signature autism program simulates the travel journey in order to provide individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) the opportunity to become more familiar with the curb-to-aircraft air travel experience.
To facilitate this opportunity for deserving families, the Airport Engagement team needs 10 volunteers to help out on the day of the event. Volunteers will be paired with representatives from our partner support agencies to assist families throughout the process. Roles include assisting at the program registration desk, guiding our guests from roadway to runway and helping us distribute a keepsake of the day for our special guests.
“About a month after we participated in the YYC Navigators program we flew to Vancouver,” said one past participant. “There were some stressful moments, but our Navigators training made us feel confident and prepared to face whatever came our way. We made it!”
Since its inaugural ‘flight’ in 2015, YYC Navigators helped approximately 160 families. Thanks to the great support from airport partners and volunteers, YYC has been have able to expand the number of participants with each offering, and was able to offer two programs in 2018. If you are interested in being a part of this incredible experience, please email PeggyB@yyc.com.
The event is on Oct. 26 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Some roles may not be required for the duration of the event; however, we do ask that volunteers be available for the entire event.
