Electrical work for Substation 58 removal begins

April 30 update: The ENMAX crews scheduled to do the utility work to begin the removal of Substation 58 were pulled off of the project due to emergency repairs. The critical electrical work will now occur from May 13 to 24. Please read the information below for more details. We’ll update this article closer to the date to remind TeamYYC of the dates.

-----------------------------------------

The Calgary Airport Authority is working with ENMAX to begin the process of removing Substation 58, which is located beside the Services Building. It is being removed to make room for a new DTB high-speed transfer switch, which will be installed later this year to bring the airport more reliable power. The ITB high-speed transfer switch is pictured above.

The critical electrical work activities will occur from May 1 to May 6 between 1:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. The electrical team is doing their best to ensure there is no impact to power to the DTB and ITB buildings. However, if there is an interruption, you can call the Integration Operations Centre (IOC) at 403-735-1300.

ENMAX crews are performing low-risk work activities on the same days between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tenants, employees and guests may observe electrical work happening in the manholes located near the Services Building, the Red Lot and the Over Height Lot. There will also be Operational Advisories letting key stakeholders know what’s happening. We’ll also keep you posted on updates regarding the new high-speed transfer switch.
