Welcome to CASW 2022
The seventh annual Canadian Airports Safety Week (CASW) 2022 begins today. This year YYC will participate alongside 17 other Canadian airports by hosting events throughout the week to reinforce healthy and safe work practices among airport employees.
Our goal is to educate and engage our airport community to strengthen safety-minded behaviours through daily initiatives during the week and continue improving our safety culture beyond CASW. Participate in activities throughout the week to reinforce your knowledge of safety practices, recommit to our guiding principle, “See Something. Say Something.” and maybe even win a prize!

Airfield Equipment Show & Shine
On Tuesday, some of our airfield equipment will be out on display for you to see and learn about. Equipment on display will include a YYC Fire Truck, airfield snow removal equipment, and aero mag de-icing equipment. Join members of the airside team as they show off some of the equipment that’s used out on the apron and ask the AEOs all your questions about safe operations on the airside.

Where: Apron I Ground Loading Gates 61-65 – Transportation between Gate 51 and Gates 61-65 will be provided.
Aviation Security BBQ
Join the security team and Convergint for a lunch-time BBQ out at the ACC Main Entrance on Thursday, Sept. 15!

Threat Risk Assessment (TRA) Training
Threat assessment is the first step in a risk and vulnerability analysis. Attend a training session to determine how to assess the various threats and security risks throughout YYC Calgary International Airport.
TRA training is limited to employees at YYC whose decisions while at work may impact airlines and guests. Operationally-related positions and or employing organizations for those who can sign up include:
- Calgary Police Service
- Airline managers
- Manager of Airports (MOA)
- Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)
- Canadian Air Transport Security Agency (CATSA)
- Transport Canada
- US CBP
- Terminal Operations Specialists
- Airport Operations Specialists
- Airport Operations Control Specialists

Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Walk
A reminder to those who registered for a FOD Walk this week to join us on the airfield to see how the smallest items of loose debris such as pens, baggage locks or screws have the potential to cause serious safety risks to an airplane and runway operations. A valid RAIC, hi-vis safety vest and closed footwear (at a minimum) are required to participate.
