The new Arrivals curb signage is lit

Summary: Unveiling the illuminated signage.

The last time we gave an update on the wayfinding strategy and illuminated signage was in February 2020. The project was put on pause for the summer and re-started in the fall.

It’s been three years in the making since Mijksenaar stepped foot in our airport and quoted the cost to illuminate the entire air terminal building with wayfinding. And like many other projects, COVID-19 posed challenges from the disruption in the supply chain — from decreased resources to terminal footprint reductions. We scaled back to critical areas that needed improvements the most: the Canada Customs Hall and the Arrivals curb. 

Since September, we’ve completed the following:

• Installed 55 fixed, illuminated signs from Doors 1-17 on the Arrivals curb in line with the new curb allocation.
• Installed 20 in-terminal Arrivals level vinyl tops on existing signs to reflect changes on the outside.

• Designed and installed a new Cell Phone Waiting Lot sign and four taxi and sedan signs.

• Covered signs at Arrivals curb Doors 1-6 until when we re-open parts of the terminal.

Signage design standards 

• Signage design standards are now available on the Hub > Our Company > Our Brand for Crew to reference as needed.
• New colours options, vetted by our guests and YYC Crew in 2019, include Bristol blue, slate grey, red and black (as shown below).

• Any new wayfinding signage will be replaced with the new colours as required.
• As per our design consultant’s recommendations, signs on the curb now have verbiage from the term “pick-up zones” to “door” numbers to be consistent with in-terminal verbiage.
