Stadium liquor service test in Concourse C
YYS is now testing the added benefit of providing guests with the option of ordering an alcoholic beverage at Chili’s and enjoying that beverage anywhere within Concourse C using a biodegradable to-go cup. The goal is to enhance the guest experience and to test this operational change with the intention to potentially apply to an airport-wide change later this year.
This initiative is part of a test that includes regular feedback from Airline partners, Security, Calgary Police Services, and Operations teams. The insights gained from this test will be applied to our intended application for stadium licensing across our entire post-security environment later this year.
The elements of the test include:
- Communication and enforcement of physical distancing.
- Communication that no liquor, wine or beer can be brought on a flight.
- A sweep of the concourse every 15 minutes to clean up disposable cups.
- Watching for any signs of passenger intoxication.
- Bathroom checks every 30 minutes.
Guests are exempted from mask-wearing while actively eating or drinking.
“The benefit of doing the trial right now while our guest volumes are low is it’s easier to work out potential operational issues and gain valuable feedback from key stakeholders and agencies,” says Chris Niergarth, General Manager, Commercial & Retail Development. “If the trial is successful and all stakeholders and agencies are in support of moving forward, we’ll actively pursue applying for a permanent Stadium Liquor license that will allow guests to consume to-go beverages in post-security terminal wide.”
