Major detour on Airport Trail for interchanges project May 16
Summary: Airport Trail traffic moves to the north side.
Starting on Saturday, May 16, 2020, at 4 p.m., eastbound traffic on Airport Trail will move to the north side of Airport Trail. The traffic switch, anticipated to be in place for approximately one month, allows utilities work within the current eastbound lanes.
This detour includes:
- Speed reduced to 50 km/h from current 60 km/h posting
- Lanes will be reduced from three to two in both directions, and dedicated left turn lanes will be provided at the intersection.
- Single left turns on northbound 19th Street N.E. changed to a dual left turn to help with movement for airport staff during construction.
- A temporary traffic signal has been installed on Aero Drive and 19th Street to improve flow at that intersection. The traffic signal becomes permanent at this location upon the interchanges overpass completion.
Following utility installation in the eastbound lanes, the next phase of the work will see utility installation in the westbound lanes, with a corresponding traffic shift to the south side of Airport Trail, with similar levels of service. The duration of this second shift should last until approximately July 1.
