COVID-19 Update: March 23
Social distancing / physical distancing
- We’re all responsible for maintaining social distance / physical distance from other people. This involves taking steps to limit the number of people you come into close contact with as it can help you reduce the risk of getting sick. See the below image as a reminder.
These are some of the frequently asked questions we’re receiving from the public, guests and Team YYC members in the past few days. We wanted to make sure you get the answers in case you’re getting the same questions.
- Are taxis and Ubers still operating out of YYC?
Yes, we still have taxi and Uber drivers operating out of YYC. All taxi and Uber drivers operating out of YYC are required to clean inside and outside of their vehicles at all customer points of contact, after each trip and only with approved cleaning products. YYC requires all drivers to practice social distancing, specifically while in the staging areas of their respective onsite facilities.
- Are restaurants still open at YYC? If so, how are you making sure diners are social distancing?
As people travel home from around the world, they may need to stop for food during their long journey. We hope to keep essential services open for them to use. Our airport partners are helping passengers social distance by reducing capacity in sit down restaurants by 50 per cent according to Alberta Health. For updated hours of operations visit: yyc.com/COVID-19.
- Is the airport still open?
Our airport is considered critical infrastructure as we move essential goods like food & supplies that people still need during this pandemic. We're one of four Canadian airports that are able to welcome home Canadians and help non-Canadians return home from international destinations. We're here to help everyone get back to their loved ones safely.
Here's a good tip from one of our YYC employees:
- What if a person returns internationally and needs to get from the airport to home and they didn’t park at the airport. They cannot self-isolate upon arrival so how do they get home. Two cars. Two people. We know this isn’t possible for everybody but one recommendation is to have two people drive two vehicles and leave one at the airport for the returning traveller to drive home in, preferably full of groceries. Or they can take a taxi or an Uber.

Personal message from Natasha Koshowski, YYC’s Emergency Response Manager:
- We all have a personal responsibility in the fight against COVID-19. We all must adhere to the directives and guidelines from the health agencies in order to flatten the curve. And remember that you are not alone! Reach out to your family, friends, and co-workers. Go outside and hug the air and find joy in the simple things. As an Airport community we are resilient and together we will get through this! Stay healthy everyone and be kind to one another!
As always, safety and security is our top priority and we will continue to work closely with PHAC and AHS and all our government partners to fully support them in any new public health measures at YYC to ensure the safety of the entire airport community. We all have an important role to play in the fight against COVID-19. We know this is unprecedented but thank you to all of you who are and continue to ensure the safety of yourselves and others. We will get through this together! And as a reminder, if you are sick, STAY HOME!!
