YYC prepares for winter weather
YYC’s operations team and our partners are ready for the forecasted snow this weekend, and here are the plans we’ve been making:
Deicing
This weather event will be the first using Aero Mag, the airlines’ new centralized single service deice provider for passenger aircraft. The Canadian company has operated at YYC for several years and has been contracted by the airline consortium to provide this important service. Deicing will occur on the West Deicing Apron and on gates until the new East Deicing Apron (EDA) begins operations in November. We’ll talk more about the EDA in the weeks to come.
Integrated Operations Centre (IOC)
Our IOC has been developing a plan to manage aircraft movements through the weekend. In some cases, we may request airlines adjust their schedules during peak times so that we can manage capacity for deicing and air traffic.
Airside
Our airside team is bringing in more Crew to keep the runways, taxiways, aprons and roadways clear and safe.
For guests, we recommend:
- Checking with your airline to see if your flight is on time, before coming to the airport.
- If your flight is on time, leave extra time to get to the airport.
- Once here, be patient as runway clearing and deicing may create some delays for flights.
