Aircraft of the month
Featuring the Airbus A220
Introducing the newest aircraft to the Airbus lineup and the newest addition to the Air Canada fleet.
The Airbus A220 began and was certified as the Bombardier CS100, or as it was commonly referred to, the C Series aircraft.
Bombardier sold the C Series aircraft to Airbus, who renamed it to the A220, with the aircraft being produced under a Bombardier and Airbus partnership.
Two versions will be available, A220-100 and A220-300 with up to 150 seats available. The A220 family aircraft have been specifically designed for the 100-150 seat market. It also has very environmentally friendly engines. The engines feature a 20 per cent lower fuel burn per seat than previous generation aircraft, half the noise footpring and decreased emissions.
The estimated price for each new A220 is approximately $81 million USD. It is estimated that Airbus have confirmed orders for a total of almost 350 aircraft.
Air Canada will be introducing the new aircraft into their fleet this fall, and have ordered a total of 45 aircraft.
