Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day
Today we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day and Indigenous History Month in Canada.
Please join us at the celebration in International Arrivals (near the horses) at 12:30 p.m. today. Don’t miss this performance of talented, cultural dancers and musicians in traditional regalia from our neighboring Treaty 7 communities!
The Calgary International Airport is located on the traditional territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy. Calgary is located in southern Alberta, home of the Treaty 7 Nations of southern Alberta, which includes the:
- three Blackfoot Confederacy Nations: Siksika, Piikani and Kainai/blood;
- Tsuut’ina Nation;
- and the three Stoney Nakoda Nations: Chiniki, Bearspaw and Wesley Nations.
The City of Calgary is also home to the Metis Nation of Alberta Region 3.
At the airport, we encourage regional visitors to attend local cultural events and visit historical sites, museums and Indigenous communities during their stay. These experiences will enrich their understanding of Canada’s history and peoples.
