Win tickets to the Calgary Expo

These aren’t the droids you’re looking for…

Get ready Jedis and Siths! Next week Stormtroopers will be taking over YYC with an onsite activation in ITB Arrivals by door 16. The Stormtroopers will be roaming pre-security for the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo (Calgary Expo) handing out swag and taking pictures with YYC guests and employees on Tuesday, April 23 and Wednesday, April 24 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

As part of the week-long Calgary Expo celebrations, we’re giving away two four-day adult passes to take in the four-day convention on social media. The contest will be running on Instagram until April 24. Winners will be selected based on their best Cosplay costume and caption sharing who their hero is. Make sure to tag @fly_yyc. Crew and Team YYC are eligible to win as well so go ahead and enter.

The fun doesn’t stop there. On Thursday, April 25 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. keep your eyes open for a special group of volunteers. Nine Pre-Board Pals volunteers and their furry companions are dressing up in their favourite superhero costumes. Thirty volunteers, led by our very own Emily Lassaline (see her dressed as Aurora from Sleeping Beauty in the picture below), are also dressing up in superhero costumes and handing out Calgary Expo swag and postcards for free kids admissions.

“This year is definitely going to be a lot bigger than previous years,” says Emily. “Most of the volunteers are people who’ve done this before and keep telling me they’re excited to come back and do it again.”

Emily began organizing the volunteer group two years ago, but has been involved in cosplay for the past 15 years (cosplay is the activity or practice of dressing up as a character from a work of fiction such as a comic book, video game, or television show).

“If people haven’t gone to the Expo before I’d highly recommend it. It’s such a large event for the community and one of the larger conventions across Canada. It’s definitely an experience.”

If you get a chance please say hi to Emily and our amazing Calgary Expo volunteers! The force is strong with this group.
