Olympic Connections at YYC
On February 26, groups of proud supporters at YYC eagerly awaited the return of the Pyeong Chang Olympians who call Calgary home.
As the Olympians were spotted coming down the arrivals escalator, the excited crowd of friends, family, and fans applauded them. Some with medals hanging around their necks, the athletes graciously accepted the title of hero from those who welcomed them.
Among the athletes were bobsled bronze medalist, Kaillie Humphries; speed skating gold and silver medalist, Ted-Jan Bloemen; women’s hockey silver medalists, Brianne Jenner and Rebecca Johnston; as well as two-man bobsled gold medalist, Justin Kripps.
The athletes stayed for about an hour as they re-united with family and met excited fans. Those who came prepared with a pen and paper may have been lucky enough to receive autographs from the athletes.
The following day, airline partner Air Canada held a warm reception to send off the Paralympic athletes to South Korea for the 2018 Paralympic games. There were smiles all around as athletes showed off their Canadian pride—decked out in maple leafs and ready to compete!
The energy and support for the returning and departing teams was palpable, as those in attendance witnessed true airport connection moments. These celebrations demonstrate YYC’s commitment to being a connecting hub, helping our Canadian athletes compete around the globe. All the best to our athletes in the future!
