We’re changing how we assign baggage claim units

Beginning next week, on Wednesday, May 28, we’re changing how baggage claim units are assigned when a domestic flight arrives at YYC. Moving forward, claim units for domestic arrivals will be assigned based on arrival gate, to ensure an optimal location, create better passenger flow and improve the overall guest experience.

If you’re out in the terminal and receive questions from guests about where to find their baggage, please direct them to the flight information and baggage information display screens located throughout the arrivals level.

What changes on May 28?
Starting on May 28, flights that land in Concourse A will have their baggage dispensed on Baggage Claim Units 1-3, regardless of airline. Similarly, flights that land in Concourse C or D will have their baggage dispensed on Baggage Claim Units 7-10, regardless of airline.

What about the Baggage Assistance Desks?
Air Canada and WestJet will both maintain their existing Baggage Assistance Desks behind Claim Unit 9 and Claim Unit 2, respectively.

Flair, Air North, and Porter will continue to use the desk across the hallway from Claim Unit 2. Air Canada will also use this desk as a supplementary Baggage Assistance Location, for times when they have flights assigned to Claim Units 1-3.

WestJet will have a supplementary Baggage Assistance Desk across from Carousel 9, for times when they have flights assigned to Claim Units 7-10.

This transition marks a change to the way ground handlers determine where to unload baggage for passenger pick up, and we thank you for your support as we work through this transition with our airline and ground handling partners.

These types of changes take a lot of time and hard work behind the scenes, and we’d like to sincerely thank everyone who has been involved in helping plan for and implement this change, including:

  • Terminal Operations
  • Information Technology
  • Baggage
  • Integrated Operations Centre
  • Airline & ground handling partners
